The Swim Course offers a unique characteristics in the world of IRONMAN: It covers two lakes at once, separated by a running passage of 200m.
The passage is the first highlight for the spectators after the swim start. The Austria IRONMAN 70.3 starts in waves classified in age groups which start out of the water in the southern part of the “Viehofner See”. There is a 10 minutes rythm between the different groups. This rythm prevents chaos in the water and reduces also bunching on the rest of the course.
Each wave covers about 350-400 athletes.
The first group is the PRO group. This group starts from a little land base.
The running passage happens after 1000m. The second part of the swim course takes place in the “Ratzersdorfer See” and has the length of 900m.
